The Brighton site of the Brighton/Quinte West Family Health Team has received funding from the Ministry of Health to be one of 20 sites across the province piloting the introduction of Physician Assistants into primary care. Mr. Glenn Bureau has been working with us since March, 2010.

Effective August 14, 2010, Dr. Allen Boettcher closed his practice in the health team and has left Brighton. The allied health professionals, administrative staff and myself made the decision to offer continued care to all of his patients while the Recruitment Committee of Brighton continues to seek a replacement.

In keeping with our collaborative care practice, some problems may first be addressed by one of the Registered Nurses or the Physician Assistant. Most pre-booked appointments will be done at the start of the day before the phones get busy with visit requests. Late day appointment times will generally not be available for pre-scheduling as they are most useful for urgent issues that have developed over the day. Tuesday evening clinic can be pre-booked as this time has proven beneficial for working patients who have difficulty getting time off work.

Former patients of Dr. Boettcher are asked to come to the office especially during the dedicated hours of Tuesday, 5-8 pm and Wednesday, 1-4 pm to complete new Ministry of Health rostering forms.

The next flu shot clinic for this season is November 11, 2010 at the Health Services Center.

I have engaged with Eastern Ontario Medical Placement Program and the Rural Ontario Placement Program to be an ongoing site for the training of medical students and residents in family medicine. I appreciate the ongoing support of all patients in my practice for the valuable educational experience we can provide when we host doctors in training.
