Patient Confidentiality

A patients privacy is protected under the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA)1 Maintaining confidentiality is fundamental to providing the highest standard of patient care. The clinic realizes that patients who understand that their information will remain confidential are more likely to provide the physician with complete and accurate health information, which in turn, leads to better treatment advice from the physician.

The clinic is unable to confirm or deny a patiences attendance to the Alpine Medical Clinic. Patients must call to book their own appointments.

Health Care

A Valid Canadian Health Care Card is needed at the time of your visit. If you are from out of country, or have misplaced your card, please read the "Frequently Asked Questions" for instructions.

Cancellation Policy

To be fair to all parties, please provide 24 hours notice in the event of a cancellation. In the case of appointments booked on the same day, please provide notice of cancellation as soon as possible. Appointment cancellations may be left on the answering machine, please include your full name, date of birth and appointment time.  There is no fee at this time for the cancellation of appointments.

If you are going to be late for appointment, please contact the clinic and we will do our best to accommodate your arrival.

Missed Appointment

As the clinic is often busy, a missed appointment is an unused appointment that could have been beneficial to another patient. If you are unable to make an appointment, please call as we prefer a short notice cancellation to a missed appointment in order to give the opportunity of treatment to others. There is no fee at this time for missed appointments, however if a pattern is found, the physician has the right to take away the patients booking privileges, allowing walk-in appointments only.

Walk-ins versus Appointments

The Alpine Medical clinic is a completely bookable clinic as well as a walk in clinic. If you wish to reduce your wait, have specific availability, or specific reason for the appointment than an appointment is recommended. However, if you are unsure of your availability we are more than happy to see you on a walk-in basis.

Some things you should know...

Procedures such as Paps, STD testing, Physicals, Prenatal Appointments, baby checks,  IUD insertions, biopsies, Driver's Medical and other procedures are typically unavailable on a walk in basis; appointments are required as these are typically considered to be longer appointments.

If you are unsure if your appointment reason will require a scheduled appointment, please contact the clinic, as we will be more than happy to assist you.

Walk in patients are fitted in between scheduled appointments, so you should be prepared to wait.

Common wait times for walk in appointments can range from 10- 40 minutes.

All of the Staff at the Alpine Medical Clinic do their best to keep appointments on schedule, however in order for the physicians to give the best and most appropriate treatment; we can sometimes be delayed due to circumstances beyond our control. We appreciate your patience, however if you are unable to wait, please notify the front desk and we will be happy to reschedule your appointment.

Transfer of Medical Records

Whether you are joining, or leaving the Alpine Medical Clinic due to a move, your new physician may require your medical chart. Your medical chart allows a physician to continue treatment by picking up where the last physician left off. It can also be an important tool for the physician to understand previous illnesses. In any case, if you are wishing to make a Request for Transfer of Records to either have records sent to the Alpine Medical Clinic or from, this request must be made in writing.

The request for transfer of medical records is an uninsured service, and therefore not covered by Canadian Health Care. Please beware there might be a fee associated which is at the sending doctors discretion and is the responsibility of the patient.

The regulation requires that physicians keep medical records for a certain period of time. For adult patients, the rule is that records must be retained for 10 years from the date of the last entry in the record. For patients who are children, the regulation requires that the physician keep the record until 10 years after the day on which the patient reached or would have reached the age of 18 years. The fees for transferring the chart are for the proper storage, copying, and faxing or sending of the chart.

If you wish to have your chart transferred to, or from the Alpine Medical Clinic, please see the links below for the Request for Transfer of Records form which you may print off and fax to the clinic.

Previous charts are not always necessary for treatment, speak to your physician and decide if the chart is needed.

The Alpine Medical Clinic also operates as a "walk in clinic" so for most cases, appointments are not needed, but recommended to reduce the wait. However, if you are wishing to have STD testing, a PAP, Medical, Drivers Medical, biopsy or other type of procedure, an appointment is needed. I am not from Alberta, but have health care from another province, how does that work?

The clinic is able to bill your home province directly for your medical visit proving you have valid health care.  The card must be present to confirm the expiration date ( if applicable) and to verify you have not been in the province too long.

I have misplaced my health card, What do I do?

However, if you have not been seen previsouly at the Alpine Medical Clinic, there is a fee for service. You will be billed at the same rate as Alberta Health Care. Once you provide the clinic with your proper healthcare information, we can arrange for your reimbursement from Alberta Health Care.

I am an out of country patient working locally on a "Working Visa" Is there a discounted rate?

The Alpine Medical Clinic offers a discounted rate to patients working in the Bow Valley ( Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise). If you are eligible and wishing to see a doctor, please bring in a recent payslip  from work, or a note from your boss on company letter head. This information is required at the time of the visit to be entitled to the discount.

Although the Alpine Medical Clinic doesn't usually deal with travel insurance directly, we are aware of the information needed for your successful claim.
